Black Owned Foods-Birmingham 2021

2021 List of Black Owned Foods tried in Birmingham, AL

Pizitz Food Hall

I had the pleasure of visiting the Pizitz Food Hall to check out their Black owned restaurants. Here’s a list of the restaurants here: J Wings Pizitz , Edolyn’s Pies , Broad St PeauxBoys and Nola Ice. On this trip, I only got to try J Wings and Broad St Peauxboys but I will definitely be back to try the other places! I could go on and on about my experience, but I’ll let my Tiktok speak for itself :).

Taproot Cafe

New to the Birmingham food scene in 2021, Taproot Cafe is a locally sourced cafe in Hoover, AL serving everything from smoothies to paninis. I have tried several of their menu items but some of my favorites are: Chicken Pesto Sandwich, Caprese Avocado Toast, Pineapple Carrot Ginger Smoothie and Sweet Potato Salad. I haven’t tried everything yet but it’s safe to say I’m obsessed.

Eugene’s Hot Chicken

I never need an occasion to go to Eugene’s, it is def one of my faves! They have two locations: Downtown Birmingham and Hoover. I have tried several things on their menu but I was shocked to learn that they had a vegan chicken sandwich with vegan comeback sauce! Now yes, I may have had some regular chicken on the side just in case (hehe) but the vegan chicken held it’s own! See below for a Tiktok about my experience!

Yo Chef Surf and Turf

I have visited Yo Chef Surf and Turf once but it is definitely somewhere I would like to try again! They have a large menu, indoor seating, a bar and and a drive through (What more do you need?) I can’t wait to go back and get their shrimp baker again, it was so good! Their salmon tacos pictured above were really good as well!

Simone’s Kitchen ATL

I have had Simone’s Kitchen ATL catering in the past and it was divine but I recently tried their food truck! It def lived up to expectations.

This Cajun Pasta Trio was so good! It featured chicken, shrimp, and sausage in delicious Cajun cream sauce. I also had the Bayou fries (but I couldn’t get a good pic to save my life lol!) Both were delicious and I can’t wait to try more on their menu!

Dynasty’s Gourmet Street Tacos

I had the pleasure of trying a shrimp taco from Dynasty’s Gourmet Street Tacos at the iPush Foodie Festival.

One taco was surprisingly filling! This was a new place for me that I would definitely try again.

Tap’ A Top Jamaican Food Truck

I also tried Tap’ A Top Jamaican Food Truck at the iPush Foodie Festival.

These Oxtails were delicious and literally melted in my mouth! It was my first time hearing of this food truck but they have made a repeat customer out of me!

Just Good Flavor Company

Where do I even start? Just Good Flavor Company is a flavor company that specializes in everything from salt-free seasoning blends to tea blends. I have tried several of their products and everything has been high quality and delicious. Did I mention everything is organic!? Here are some of the foods that I have created with their products:

Aww Shucks

I was out running errands one Saturday when I ran across Aww Shucks Food Truck! Yall..I am normally not a corn person but this corn was SO good!

These garlic parmesan flavored kernels really had me shook! (Like what I did there hehe). They were delicious and affordable. I am so glad I decided to pull over that day!

Not Ya Average Leaf

Not Ya Average Leaf is a vegan food truck that travels throughout the Birmingham area. When I visited, I tried their amazing vegan Birria Tacos! I have not been able to find vegan Birria tacos anywhere else. I can’t wait to try more from their extensive menu! Check out my Tiktok about my experience!

Drink Freshh

Drink Freshh is a food truck that features Acai Bowls! I was so excited to find a Black owned company that sells Acai Bowls and other healthy treats. The Dragonfruit Bowl was absolutely delicious and I look forward to visiting their store when it opens up!

Post Office Pies

If you live in Birmingham you’ve probably heard of Post Office Pies, but what you may not know is that they are Black Owned! Post Office Pies has two locations: one in Avondale and one in Mountain Brook. I visited their Avondale location located near Avondale Brewery. Their Avondale location features indoor and outdoor seating and a full bar with several options. They also have a variety of options that any pizza lover can enjoy. They are definitely one of my faveee pizza places in the city!

Undergound Vegan

Underground Vegan is located in the hip 5 points south neighborhood in Birmingham. They have the cutest vibe and a variety of vegan options that–if you didn’t know any better– you wouldn’t know is vegan!

Pictured are the Philly Fries and the Chopped Philly. Who knew vegan food could taste so good?! A few other menu options included: Skrimp Po Boy, Wangz, VLT, and Skrimp Basket. They also have shakes that looked tasty. I will definitely be back. Even if you aren’t vegan, this place will definitely make you consider becoming an Underground Vegan.

You can find them on Instagram Here! Go check them out!
